Natural stone cleaning, polishing and restoration services

Whether from wear and tear, if you have just moved into your home and want to get the floors looking new, or if you need some help getting them back to how they were before you move out, or if part of your presale preparations  – we have a range of cleaning and polishing services to cover every job.

We offer a choice of three (3) natural stone restoration services:

1. Full Restoration

If your natural stone needs serious work to bring it back to life, Mr Blastit can get it back to its original beauty. Our full natural stone restoration services include:

  • Removing deep scratches
  • Cleaning ingrained dirt, grease and grime
  • Polishing to restore the shine and colour

Cleaning and stone sealing go hand in hand. To keep your floors pristine and safe from future spills for longer, all of our internal stonework is sealed with high-quality penetrating sealers from Guard Industry.

Optional services:

  • Honing to flatten and level the individual stone: This gives your natural stone surface an even, level surface.
  • De-lipping and grinding edges of the stone and grout joins for a smooth finish. This makes your stone surfaces easier to keep sparkling clean, as dirt will no longer get stuck in the lower grout joins.

2. Light restoration

Not all jobs require a heavy hand. Light restoration gives you the same deep clean and beautiful natural stone finish, with a less intensive list of services required. This covers:

  • Removing shallow scratches from the natural stone
  • Cleaning tough ingrained dirt, grease and grime
  • Polishing to restore shine and colour

If needed, we can also reseal the natural stone floor with our Guard Industry penetrating sealers to prolong the life and beauty of your freshly restored floor.

3. Regular maintenance cleaning

Just as important as restoration! This service aims to get your natural stone clean and hygienic with specialised equipment, going beyond what can be accomplished by regular cleaning methods.

  • Cleaning ingrained dirt, grease and grime
  • Polishing to restore shine and colour

How we work

For indoor cleaning and polishing, we use a specialised piece of machinery from Klindex Australia. This is an incredibly versatile piece of equipment that can clean all kinds of natural stone and is suitable for large areas or smaller areas.

It can be adjusted to suit any job; from more delicate light restoration to grinding and polishing terrazzo, marble, and travertine. From getting stubborn epoxy or old sealant off to reveal the potential beneath, to grinding down edges for easier cleaning in future.

Whether you need natural stone restoration in bathrooms, kitchens or hallways, this equipment allows us to grind, hone and polish your areas to an unmatched finish.

FAQs

How much does natural stone restoration cost?

The cost of the natural stone restoration process is unique to your space because each home has a different layout, cumulative area, and individual quirks or considerations.

The best way to get an accurate quote for your service is to call us so one of our expert technicians can assess your job – the quote is obligation-free.

How long until we can walk on or touch the surfaces?

If the surfaces have been cleaned only, you can expect to be able to walk on or touch them as soon as they are dry.

If you have opted for a restoration service and resealing, you will need to wait longer. The time before you can walk on the surface is determined by which sealer has been chosen for your specific job. In most cases the sealed surface can be walked on once visibly dry; however, the full cure enabling the sealer to repel potential stains can take up to 48-72 hours in some cases.

Remember to use rubber feet on chairs, or other protectants as needed to reduce the chance of scratching or other damage to your good-as-new floors.

How do you clean natural stone to remove stains and grime?

Internal cleaning of stone is completed either dry, with a vacuum attached, or wet. We complete most of the stone restoration work wet for best results; this does not pose any risk to your home as it only uses a very small amount of water, which is then vacuumed up.

If needed, the stone is then restored using specialised machinery and pads, which have varying degrees of grits from 60 up to 10,000 depending on the level of shine requested or required.

How do you maintain polished stone surfaces?

Protection, regular cleaning, and quick action against any spills are the best ways to keep your polished stone looking pristine for longer.

Firstly, make sure any chairs or furniture that will be in direct contact with the floor has a rubber or felt cap. Keeping the feet of your furniture from dragging over the floors is the easiest way to prevent unsightly scratches; using rugs in high-traffic areas is another great way to minimise the impact of whatever is going over your lovely stone floor.

More information: Caring for Sealed Surfaces

For any natural stone surface, be diligent in keeping debris to a minimum. Regular sweeping and mopping will keep your floor in good shape between deep cleaning, sealing and any further restoration, but you should also take extra care to mop up any spills as they happen.

Many of the liquids and foods we have in our homes are not good for natural stone. Drips or spills from organic acids like tomato, soft drinks, or citrus (among other things) can etch natural stone like marble or travertine tiles, which leaves a permanent mark or slightly dulls the area that has come in contact with the substance.

Good sealing with a penetrative sealer (like our Guard Industry products) can help slow or minimise damage, but the best practice is to mop up spills as soon as they happen.
